Political prospectives.
Conservative
Conservatives dissagree with violent video games and their contect. Phyllis Schlafly writes "Extremely violent and addictive video games are polluting the minds of an entire generation of children, and most parents are clueless. Young players earn game points based on how many murders they commit, with increasingly realistic bloodshed splattered around for teenagers and pre-teens to learn to enjoy". Debralee Hovey writes “In my mind, we do not need to be glorifying violence. What about murder and mayhem have become entertainment in our society?” |
Liberal
Liberal views are more towards the side that violent video games are not the reason for all the problems and for all the individuals who go crazy. Stephen Breyers writes "Learning a practical task often means developing habits, becoming accustomed to performing the task, and receiving positive reinforcement when performing that task well. Video games can help develop habits, accustom the player to performance of the task, and reward the player for performing that task well. Why else would the Armed Forces incorporate video games into its training?" "Henry Jenkins, PhD, Provost's Professor of Communication, Journalism, and Cinematic Arts at University of Southern California, writes, "According to federal crime statistics, the rate of juvenile violent crime in the United States is at a 30-year low. Researchers find that people serving time for violent crimes typically consume less media before committing their crimes than the average person in the general population". |
Moderate
Moderate people don't really care about either view, they are more in between views. There were not any good quotes about this view but in general he moderate view is looking for the best thing for the people. They don't love the games but they also don't want them to be banned they think that it's not the games that make people angry its how the person reacts to the violence of the games. It also all goes back to how a person was raised to see how they react to the violence in these games. But overall the moderate view doesn't mind these games but they don't want people getting too attached to these games. |
The dispute between whether or not that violent video games effect the youth of our country has been so bad that there was even a supreme court case about it to finally decide which side would win the argument. The case was called Brown v Entertainment Merchants Association it was the governor of california, they got a group of petitioners together to vote against the selling and renting to minors of violent video games. The trial was dismissed after some time of arguing because of the fact that the banning of video games was a direct violation to the first amendment so it was dismissed and these games are still being sold and played all over. This was the only real issue about violent video games all the other issues were mainly arguments but there have been no more big issues i can find.
